Sr Joanna SSC of Tymawr adds
“We recorded this in late August, 2021. At the time of recording there were three novices and five solemnly professed sisters – I have since made my simple profession, so two novices and six sisters! We have also had a number of women live alongside us over the last year and welcome enquiries about life alongside. As a contemplative community, our focus is our shared life of prayer; areas of work include hospitality and care for our land – current projects include planting new orchards, re-planting historic hedgerows, erecting a polytunnel, planning for ephemeral ponds, and much more! We usually provide spaces for guests to stay, and arrange study days, but at present the need for Covid safety has limited these. However, we continue to study together as a Community, to pray for and with our family of Companions, Oblates, Associates and friends, and to plan with great hope and excitement for the future. In 2023 we will celebrate 100 years living at Tymawr Convent (our centenary as the Society of the Sacred Cross was in 2014), and we are looking forward to celebrating a hundred years in this beautiful place, and the welcome our sisters received when they arrived by pony and trap a hundred years ago. The heating has improved, the habits are a little simpler… but I think the bold spirit of the founders is still very much alive. This year we will also celebrate 50 years since the eldest of our current sisters, Sr. Gillian Mary, arrived at the convent as a Postulant, and give thanks for her fifty years of faithful love and service here.”
