Company of Mission Priests (CMP)

Introduction to the community

We are a dispersed community of male priests of the Anglican Communion who, wishing to consecrate ourselves wholly to the Church’s Mission, keep ourselves free from the attachments of marriage and the family. We endeavour to strengthen and encourage each other by mutual prayer and fellowship.

We share the vision of St Vincent de Paul for the formation of the clergy and the care of the poor. We live in a manner prescribed by our Constitution and have a Vincentian Rule of Life.

For many years the Company, although serving also in Guyana and Madagascar, was best known for its work in staffing ‘needy’ parishes in England with two, three or more priests who lived together in clergy houses.

We encourage our members who work in proximity to meet as often as practicable in order to maintain some elements of common life. The whole company meets in General Chapter once a year, and in the Regional Chapters more frequently.

We were among the founding members of the Vincentians in Partnership in 2000, which works in accordance with the principles established by St Vincent de Paul to support and empower those who are poor, oppressed or excluded; now known as FamVin GB.
